BETHLEHEM, PA - Sophomore Michael Blair (Wellesley, MA) of the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team won his third championship title of the season in the high jump at the 2011 ECAC Division III meet hosted by Moravian College on Thursday and Friday.
Blair cleared 6'5" (1.96m) to lead the ECAC high jump field and score 10 points for the team. He has also finished first in the event at the NESCAC meet and at the New England Div. III Championships within the last three weeks.
The Jumbos tied for 17th place at ECAC's with a team score of 18 points.
Freshman Ben Wallis (Dover, NH) added a sixth-place to the Tufts total in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running it in a 9:32.18 time. The Jumbos also got a sixth-place finish in the pole vault from sophomore Brad Nakanishi (Scarborough, ME), whose best was 14'8" (4.47m).
Freshman Atticus Swett (Bow, NH) whirled the discus 147'3" (44.88m) to finish seventh for the Jumbos.
The season-ending NCAA Championships are next week (May 26-28) at Ohio Wesleyan University. Sophomore Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth, ME) looks like the Jumbos' best shot at getting into the meet. He's ranked 13th in the 10,000 meters. Wallis and Nakankishi also qualified provisionally, but are low on the lists.
