MATT RAND TAKES SIXTH IN 10,000 METERS AT NCAA MEN'S TRACK & FIELD OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

DELAWARE, OH - Sophomore Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth, ME) of the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team earned All-American honors with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the 2011 NCAA Div. III Championships on Thursday.

Rand ran 30:37.17 in the 10K to comfortably place sixth out of 19 entrants in the event at the national meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. He had entered the event seeded 12th nationally, improving upon that placement by six spots in the race.

Mike Spain from North Central won the 10K national title with a 29:58.92 time.

The sixth-place finish scored three points for the Jumbos. Rand is the lone member of Coach Ethan Barron's team to compete at the NCAA meet this week.
