Jumbos Earn Weekend Sweep of Connecticut College With 4-2 NESCAC Victory Saturday Night

Tri-captain Matt Amico scored the game-winning goal for Tufts

NEW LONDON, CT - Senior netminder Scott Barchard (Reading, MA) turned aside 43 shots to lead the Tufts University men's hockey team to a 4-2 victory at Connecticut College Saturday.

The visiting Jumbos (11-7-2, 8-5-1 NESCAC) extend their unbeaten streak to six games in the triumph. Tufts moves into third place in NESCAC with the win. Their 17 points are one in front of fourth-place Williams and two ahead of fifth-place Middlebury. The Camels fall to 5-12-3 and are 3-9-2 in conference action.

Sophomore Kyle Gallegos (Westminster, CO) potted his 13th and 14th goals of the season for the visitors. Junior forward Dylan Plimmer (Phoenix, AZ) chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Jumbos. Matt Amico (Buffalo, NY) potted a second-period goal that proved to be the difference in the contest.,

Connecticut College sophomore Mike Sinsigalli (Wilton, CT) scored both goals for the hosts. Sean Curran (Wilmette, IL) dished out his NESCAC-leading 19th assist for the Camels. Sophomore Marcus Calvanico (Flower Mound, TX) made 18 saves in goal for the hosts.

Gallegos potted a pair of first-period goals to put the visitors on top 2-0. But Sinsigalli got one back for the Camels at the 11:22 mark of the period with assists coming from Keith Veronesi (South Glastonbury, CT) and Marc Roper (Moncton, NB). The Jumbos carried the 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

With 9:51 remaining in the second period, Sinsigalli scored the equalizer. JC Cangelosi (Estero, FL) made a move from behind the Tufts goal and snapped a pass out to Sinsigalli for a one-timer from the slot. Curran earned the second assist on the goal.

Curran made a nice bid to put the Camels ahead with a shot from inside the left circle with 4:20 remaining in the second, but Barchard was able to make the stop.

The Jumbos took the lead for good with 3:35 remaining in the middle period. Senior Evan Story (Shaker Heights, OH) delivered a perfect lead pass to Amico at the blue line and the senior tri-captain went top shelf for the Jumbo goal.

Amico had another shot with 2:13 remaining from the right circle, but Calvanico was able to make the stick save and the visitors carried a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, the Camels continued to pepper Barchard with shots from a variety of angles and locations. With 5:19 remaining, Eric Naclerio (Milford, CT) blasted one from below the left circle that was saved by Barchard. Later on in the period with 1:58 to go, Barchard may have made his toughest save of the night. Kevin Reich (Montvale, NJ) fired a shot from the point and Veronesi was able to get his stick on it for a re-direction in the slot area, but Barchard was able to cover it up.

The visitors added an empty-netter from Plimmer with 32 seconds left and were able to record the 4-2 victory.

Close to 500 fans showed up for the inaugural "Green Dot" game. Green Dot is a campus initiative to prevent power-based personal violence through bystander intervention.
