CAMBRIDGE - The Jumbo men's track and field team recorded two victories and six top-three finishes at the non-scoring MIT Invitational on Saturday.
The meet was the last chance for athletes to hit marks that would qualify for the championship season.
The Jumbos notched two victories on Saturday. Junior Tyler Andrews (Concord, MA) won the 5,000 with a time of 15:18.93. He was backed by senior co-captain Scott McArthur (Denver, CO) who placed third in a time of 15:21.22.
Junior Gbola Ajayi (Lagos, Nigeria) recorded a victory in the long jump with his leap of 22'6 1/2" (6.87m ). In the triple jump, junior Ned DeLeo (Miami, FL) placed third with his mark of 40'8 3/4" (12.41m).
Back on the track, the Jumbos assembled several solid performances in the mid-distance events. Freshman Evan Cover (Traverse City, MI) and sophomore Bobby McShane (Mansfield, MA) finished in second and third in the 800 with times of 1:54.41 and 1:54.64, respectively.
In the 1,500, senior Jeff Prescott (Wilton, CT) recorded a time of 4:02.48 to finish as the runner-up. Meanwhile, freshman Marshall Pagano (Niskayuna, NY) took third in the steeplechase with his time of 10:01.56.
Senior co-captain Adam Aronson (Norwood, MA) was able to notch a top-three finish in the hammer throw with a heave of 170'9" (52.04m).
The Jumbos will look to carry the momentum from these stellar performances into championship season which begins next Saturday with the NESCAC Championship at Bates.
