Anderson Scores 1,000th Point, Leads Jumbo Men's Basketball to Win Over Connecticut College

Scott Anderson became the 27th player to score 1,000 points at Tufts

MEDFORD - Senior co-captain Scott Anderson (Sudbury, MA) scored 18 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as the Tufts men's basketball team won its fourth in a row, 73-56, over Connecticut College in a NESCAC game Saturday afternoon at Cousens Gym.

Anderson drained a three-pointer to open the scoring and become the 27th player in Jumbo history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He also grabbed six rebounds in the gam. Freshman Stephen Haladyna (Hamilton, MA) finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists for Tufts (10-7, 4-2 NESCAC).

The Camels (5-12, 0-6 NESCAC), who lost their sixth straight game, were led by 15 points from junior Mason Lopez (Hoboken, NJ).

Tufts used a 12-1 run late in the first half to lead 35-22 at the break. The Camels had been within 23-21 following a layup by Lopez at the seven-minute mark. Haladyna hit two three-pointers during the Jumbo run and Ferris added four points. Tufts would lead by double figures for the rest of the game.

Anderson paced Tufts with 10 points at the break, while Vadas had scored six for Connecticut College. The Jumbos out-rebounded the Camels 23-13 in the first 20 minutes, with five each by Anderson and Haladyna leading the way. Seven different players had assists in the half for Tufts.

The Jumbos pushed the advantage to 20 points (50-20) early in the second half when junior Alex Goldfarb (New York, NY) hit a three-pointer at the 15:25 mark. The lead hovered around 20 for the remainder of the half, peaking at 25 (71-46) following a free throw by senior Matt Lanchantin (Natick, MA) with 4:21 on the clock.

Tufts is fourth in NESCAC after the weekend with four conference games remaining. They dominated the boards overall this afternoon (37-23) and all 14 players who dressed played in the game. Sophomore Ben Ferris (Essex Junction, VT) added 12 points and Lanchantin finished with seven.

Connecticut College junior Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, NJ), who entered the weekend averaging 21.2 points per game, was held to 11 today by the Jumbos. Freshman Aaron McBurnie (Brooklyn, NY) finished with 10 for the Camels. The visitors were a sharp 7 for 14 from three-point territory. Sixteen players saw action for the visitors.

The Jumbos play a non-league game at home against UMass Boston on Thursday at 6 pm. The Camels are in action next at Coast Guard on Monday.
