Gyimesi Selected as D3CA Region I Student-Athlete of the Year

MEDFORD, MA (August 27, 2026) - Scott Gyimesi, a 2026 Tufts University graduate and a member of the Jumbo men's basketball team, has been selected as the D3CA Region I Men's Student-Athlete of the Year.

This prestigious award, now in its fourth year, recognizes graduating seniors who demonstrated excellence in athletics, academics, leadership, and service throughout their collegiate careers. Gyimesi was nominated by Tufts, and then a committee of New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) athletic administrators selected him to represent the conference for regional consideration for the Division III Commissioners Association (D3CA) honor. One of 10 regional recipients, he now advances to the national ballot from which a winner will be announced on September 3.

Gyimesi is Tufts' first D3CA Regional Student-Athlete of the Year since Isaac Gorelik of the men's tennis team in 2022.

"It is an honor to be representing Tufts and the NESCAC in this regard," Gyimesi said. "I enjoyed my time at Tufts, and learning what it means to represent the institution through this process has been special."

The other nine regional winners who join Gyimesi on the final ballot are Levi BenAvram - Brandeis University (Fencing), Isaiah Brunache - SUNY Cortland (Track and Field), Ethan Hagen - Stevens Institute (Soccer), Logan Campbell - University of Scranton (Cross Country, Indoor & Outdoor Track and Field), Matt Conroy - Shenandoah University (Football), Ethan Manske - Kenyon College (Swimming and Diving), Adrian Manchado-Cano - Milwaukee School of Engineering (Basketball), Eric Kincaid - Loras College (Wrestling), Rabbit Barnes - Colorado College (Cross Country and Track and Field).

In May, Gyimesi graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tufts with a 3.90 grade point average and a degree in economics with minors in finance, architectural studies, and history.
 
He was a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honoree, a three-time NESCAC All-Academic Team selection, and a three-time CSC Academic All-District Team recipient. Gyimesi also earned a spot on the Dean's List every semester at Tufts.
 
The 2026 NESCAC Player of the Year was a three-time All-NESCAC selection. He garnered National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III All-America first team honors and was the 2026 NABC District 1 Player of the Year. He was also the D3hoops Region I Player of the Year and All-American last season. Gyimesi was a two-time Jostens Trophy Finalist, one of 10 players selected nationally.
 
Gyimesi graduated as Tufts' all-time leading rebounder (949) and finished his career with 1,308 points. He led the NESCAC in rebounding as a senior, averaging 9.1 rebounds per game, and ranked 10th in NCAA Division III with 15 double-doubles in 2025-26.
 
Overcoming an ankle injury, Gyimesi helped lead Tufts to just its second NCAA Tournament Elite 8 appearance in program history and was a part of four NCAA Tournament qualifying teams during his career.
 
A team captain for two seasons, Gyimesi served as a Tufts Athletics Civic Life Ambassador, founded the Tufts Real Estate Group, organized a 3x3 charity basketball tournament for Team IMPACT, volunteered at the Boston Food Bank, and was a Teaching Assistant for an Entrepreneurial Finance class.
