Gbola Ajayi hit an automatic qualifying mark in the TJ at the ECAC meet

NEW YORK CITY - Competing on the first day of the ECAC Division III Championships at The Armory in New York City on Friday, senior Gbola Ajayi (Lagos, Nigeria) of the Jumbo men's indoor track & field team improved his NCAA qualifying mark in the triple jump.
On the fourth of his six jumps, Ajayi went 48'1 1/4" (14.66m) to improve his national ranking in the event to 10th. The top 13 are expected to earn a berth into the NCAA meet next weekend (Mar. 8-9) in Naperville, Illinois. Ajayi finished second at the ECAC meet.
Senior tri-captain Brad Nakanishi (Scarborough, ME) was also in action at the ECAC's. He tied for fifth in the pole vault with 15'3 3/4" (4.67m) clearance. He was unable to improve upon his season's best mark of 15'5" (4.7m), which was tied for 19th nationally entering the week.
Ajayi and Nakanishi combined to score 11 points on Friday, which tied Tufts for fifth at the ECAC meet after one day. The event continues on Saturday when Tufts will not have any participants. The team score would fall into a tie for 27th after Saturday's events.
The Jumbos are hosting a Last Chance Meet at the Gantcher Center on Saturday.
