SOMERVILLE - Three members of the Jumbo men's track & field team suited up in the Tufts Decathlon at Ellis Oval on Saturday and Sunday.
In his first attempt at the event this season, junior Andrew Osborne (Andover, MA) tallied 5,063 points to place seventh of 12 competitors. His highest point total came in the first event on Saturday, as his time of 11.79 in the 100 meters was good enough for 693 points. Only Vinny Biunno of Franklin Pierce and Henry Morales of UMass Boston bested his time in that event. Osborne also fared well in the 400 as he clocked a time of 53.07, good enough for 679 points.
Freshman Alex Karys (Newton, MA) made his career debut in the multi-event with a score of 4,774, which earned him 10th place. His best effort came in the field, as he cleared 6'0 ½" (1.84m) in the high jump on Saturday. He also earned big points in the final event of the competition on Sunday, as he placed second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:43.55, which was good enough for 658 points.
Sophomore Allan Yau (Andover, MA) was also in action for the Jumbos, as he placed 12th with a score of 4,500. The 400 meter was his best event, as he earned 627 points with his time of 54.31. He was also productive in the 110 hurdles. His time of 17.27 was good enough for 596 points.
Osborne's seventh-place effort garnered two team points for Tufts. That total put the Jumbos in sixth-place out of the seven teams represented. Franklin Pierce tallied 10 points for first, while Boston College and Colby scored eight to round out the top three.
Osborne, Karys, and Yau will rejoin their teammates next weekend at the MIT Invitational, the final tune-up before the NESCAC Championship.
