PRINCETON, NJ - Six members of the Jumbo men's track & field team traveled south to Princeton University to compete in the competitive Sam Howell Invitational on Friday night.
Three of those six Tufts runners used the fast competition from all divisions to record personal-best marks in their respective events.
In the 10,000, senior Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth, ME) posted a 17-second personal-best time of 30:09.27 to place eighth in the field of 27. That mark is only the second sub-30:10 time in school history. It also ranks third in the nation so far this season and will qualify Rand for the NCAA Championship.
Classmate Tyler Andrews (Concord, MA) also turned in a stellar performance. He clocked a time of 30:24.57 to place 15th. That mark ranks eighth nationally and will most likely qualify for the NCAA Championship.
In the 1,500, junior Jamie Norton (Groton, MA) notched a personal-best time of 3:53.78. That time is currently the best in the nation, but will almost certainly have to be improved upon for Norton to qualify for NCAA's. Fifth-year senior Connor Rose (Irvine, CA) also competed in the 1,500, clocking a time of 4:05.19.
Junior Ben Wallis (Dover, NH) came away with a four-second personal best in the 5,000, as he clocked a time of 14:51.90, while senior Kyle Marks (Carmel, IN) crossed the line in a time of 15:01.39.
These athletes will hope to improve on these solid early-season performances as the season progresses.
Next weekend, coach Ethan Barron's team will travel to Brown University to compete in the Springtime Invitational.
