WILLIAMSTOWN - Tufts University swept the doubles Saturday en route to a 5-0 win over Elizabethtown University in the second round of the Div. III NCAA Tournament at the Lansing Chapman Rink on the cammpus of Williams College.
The Jumbos (9-9) advanced to the regional final Sunday, where they will meet Williams (19-4) at 1:30 pm for the right to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Elizabethtown finished its season at 17-4.
Tufts got off to a great start at three doubles when Sophie Schonfeld (Washington, DC) and Janice Lam (San Francisco, CA) breezed to an 8-0 decision over Christine Evangelista and Kaitlyn Pellegrino. The Jumbos made it 2-0 when the second doubles tandem of Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) and Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) defeated Kristi Noecker and Adrianna Scott, 8-0.
Tufts completed its doubles sweep when the first team of Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) and Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) cruised to an 8-2 win over Madison Pipkin and Allison Burkhardt.
The Jumbos' dominant day continued at three singles when Hollender knocked off Noecker, 6-0, 6-2. The match concluded when Gann finished off Burkhardt at two singles, 6-1, 6-2. Tufts' Lindsay Katz held a 7-5 first set win over Pipkin at one singles when the match ended.
