Blair Ties School Record in High Jump on First Day of Men's Track & Field All-New England Meet

NORTH EASTON - Senior Mike Blair (Wellesley, MA) of the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team tied the school record in the high jump while competing in the first five events of the decathlon at the 2013 All-New England Championships hosted by Stonehill College on Thursday.

Blair cleared 6'7 1/2" (2.02m) to win the high jump portion of the decathlon, scoring 822 points. The mark ties the height cleared by current assistant coach Jeremy Arak and teammate James Bradley in 2007.  Arak works directly with Blair, who had a career-best performance with the effort.

After five events, Blair leads the decathlon with 3,463 points. Justin Escaravage from Southern Connecticut is second at 3,256. The field features 10 athletes overall, including four from Division I, two from Division II, and four from Division III.

Blair scored 718 points with his 52.16 time for third place in the 400 meters. He also won the long jump with 20'10" (6.35m) distance, accumulating 664 points.

The decathlon continues on Friday, when other events at the championship meet also begin.
