BRUNSWICK, ME- The Jumbos men's track and field team performed well across all event groups, but came up just short of winning the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday.
Tufts' 157 points was only bested by Bowdoin's 174. Coast Guard (134), Colby (49), and Southern Maine (29) rounded out the five-team field.
The Jumbos were particularly impressive in the field events. He was backed up by sophomore Atticus Swett in second with a mark of 47' 0 ¼" (14.33m). Swett was also second in the weight throw with his heave of 49' 4 ½" (15.05m).
On the runway, senior Andrew Osborne (Andover, MA) and junior Allan Yau (Andover, MA) placed 1-2 with distances of 20' 9 ¼" (6.33m) and 20' 7 ¾" (6.29m) respectively. Freshman Jarad Asselin leaped 42' 2" (12.85m) in the triple jump to finish as the runner-up.
In the high jump, sophomore Bryson Hoover Hankerson (Owings Mills, MD) cleared 6' 2" (1.88m) to win the event. He was also active on the track, as he was the runner-up in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.23. Freshman teammate Pietro Possenti took third in 7.36 seconds.
The Jumbos earned two victories on the track. Sophomore Veer Bhalla (West Windsor, NJ) clocked a time of 1:23.56 in the 600 to best the field. Meanwhile, freshman Tim Nichols (North Lima, OH) led a strong Tufts contingent in the 3,000, as his time of 8:51.94 was the best of the day. He was backed by sophomore Michael Curley (North Attleboro, MA) and senior Liam Cassidy (Brunswick, ME) in third and fourth with times of 8:59.47 and 8:59.48 respectively.
Coach Ethan Barron's team will look to be even stronger across all event groups next weekend, as they will return home to host the Tufts Stampede at the Gantcher Center.
