Box Score MALDEN - Freshman Brian Brown had a goal and an assist while senior linemate Tyler Voigt finished with two assists as the Tufts Hockey team earned its first NESCAC victory of the season over Colby, 4-1, Friday night at Valley Forum.

The Jumbos received points from 10 players, outshot Colby 33-29 and saw freshman goalie Mason Pulde make 28 saves in an overall productive night. The win was Tufts' third in the last four games, improving head coach Brian Murphy's squad to 3-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in NESCAC.
Colby saw a two-game winning streak end as they slipped to 2-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference.
The Mules earned a 15-9 shots advantage in the first period, but it was the Jumbos who came out of the frame with a 2-1 lead. Tufts freshman Dan Kelly scored his first collegiate goal at 12:13 and just 37 seconds later sophomore Matt Pugh added a power-play goal at 12:50 suddenly putting the Jumbos on top 2-0.
The Mules tallied their lone goal of the game at 17:14 of the first with freshman Michael Decker scoring his first career goal. Assists went to freshman Phil Klitirinos and senior co-captain Ray Zeek. Pulde had 14 first-period saves for the Jumbos.
Tufts took control in the second period, finishing with a 13-5 advantage in shots for the stanza. They added to their lead with a goal by the fourth line as sophomore Mike Leary scored at 18:34 for a 3-1 Tufts advantage.
Into the third, Brown gave the Jumbos even more of a cushion with a back-door blast from the right face-off circle just 32 seconds into the period for a 4-1 Tufts margin. He is averaging a point per game with five goals and three assists thus far.
The Jumbos clamped down defensively as the game wore on, allowing just 14 Colby shots in the second and third periods combined.
Freshman Emerson Verrier finished with 29 saves for the Mules, including 12 in the second period.
At the face-off dot, Jumbo sophomore Conal Lynch was an outstanding 14 for 18 while Colby's Zeek was equally good at 11 for 16.
Both teams return to NESCAC action tomorrow with Tufts hosting Bowdoin at 4 pm and Colby travelling to play at Connecticut College in a 3 pm start.
