CAMBRIDGE - The 4x100-meter relay won and junior Brian Williamson was among the top five in three throwing events as the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team finished its regular season at MIT's non-scoring Sean Collier Invitational on Saturday.
The 4x1 was comprised of senior Graham Beutler, freshman Blake Coolidge, sophomore Bryson Hoover-Hankerson and senior Andrew Osborne. Their time of 43.41 seconds was a half-second faster than Franklin Pierce.
Williamson placed third in the shot put, fourth in the hammer throw and fifth in the discus throw. His 172'0" (52.42m) in the hammer was his season's best and improved to #34 on the national list. He narrowly missed upgrading his shot put mark with a 49'11 3/4" (15.23m). He reached 131'5" (40.06m) in the discus.
Classmate Atticus Sweet was in scoring spots for all three throws as well. His best effort was a 139'11" (42.64m) in the discus for third.
Freshman Nick Usoff had a versatile double at the MIT meet, taking third in the 400-meter hurdles (56.38) and fourth in the javelin (174'4" / 53.13m). Junior Joseph St. Pierre likewise finished high in two events, running 1:58.67 in the 800 (third) and 4:02.04 in the 1,500 (fourth).
Head coach Ethan Barron's Jumbos will defend their 2013 NESCAC title at the conference meet next Saturday hosted by Colby.
