Beatty's Single-handed Racing Helps Tufts Sailing to Third at Admiral's Cup

KINGS POINT, NY - Freshman Sandy Beatty finished third in the single-handed division of the 2014 Admiral's Cup, helping the Tufts co-ed sailing take third out of 20 as a team at the intersectional regatta hosted by US Merchant Marine Academy over the weekend.

In 14 races over three divisions, Tufts' acuumulated finishes of 302 actually tied for second. However, they lost to Old Dominion in a head-to-head tie-breaker to drop down to third. Tufts had scores of 118 and 117 in the A and B double-handed racing, respectively. Beatty totaled 67 in the C division.

During the course of racing, Beatty won the sixth and had runner-up showings in the first and 11th races.

The Tufts B division team of skipper Willem Sandberg with crew Tori Porter took sixth out of 20. Their best finish was a second in the 10th start.

For A's, junior Alec Ruiz-Ramon skippered with crew Sam Madden. They were second in the first two races.

St. Mary's College won the regatta with 89-98-89-276 scores.
