Wallis and Norton Advance to Finals of NCAA Men's Track and Field Outdoor Championship

DELAWARE, OH - Seniors Ben Wallis and Jamie Norton of the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team grabbed the final qualifying spot in their respective events at the NCAA Championship at Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday.

Wallis entered the meet as the fifth seed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, but he fell to 14th in the preliminary with a time of 9:18.27. After a stumble early in the race, he was able to regain control and hold on for the final qualifying spot. The 14-man final goes off at 1:20 pm on Saturday. Wallis will look for his second consecutive All-American finish in the event.

In the 1,500 meters, Norton clocked a time of 3:52.28 to claim the last of 12 qualifying spots. He entered the meet as the 12th seed, but he'll be aiming for a top-eight finish and his first individual All-American award when he hits the track in Saturday's 2:15pm final.

Sophomore Mitch Black will be in action Friday at 8:15pm in the 800-meter preliminaries.
