BRUNSWICK, ME- Tufts athletes won three of four mid-distance events as the Jumbo men's track and field team placed first of eight teams at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday.

The Jumbos tallied 141 points, 17 more than runner-up Southern Maine (124). Bowdoin took third with 111.33 points.
Junior Mitch Black turned in an excellent performance in the 600, as his time of 1:20.21 bested the field and broke the school record of 1:20.46 set by classmate Veer Bhalla last season.
Bhalla notched a solid performance of his own on Saturday, as he won the 1,000 in a time of 2:31.76. He was backed by seniors Marshall Pagano (2:33.26), Sam Garfield (2:35.40) and Joseph St. Pierre (2:36.65) in second, third and fourth, respectively.
In the mile, sophomore Luke O'Connor emerged victorious with a time of 4:25.70. Classmate Tim Nichols clocked a time of 8:41.42 in the 3,000 for second, while senior Nick Guarnaccia took third (8:53.10).
In the shorter events, the Jumbos earned points from sophomore Nicholas Usoff and junior Bryson Hoover Hankerson. Usoff clocked a time of 51.52 for third in the 400, while Hoover Hankerson placed fourth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.16.
On the infield, sophomore Thomas Wang leaped over the bar at 6' 0" (1.83m) for third in the high jump.
Senior Brian Williamson had a productive day in the circle for Tufts. His heave of 50'8" (15.44m) in the weight throw was good enough for third. In the shot put, he placed second with a mark of 48'10 ¼" (14.89m). Junior Atticus Swett (48'8", 14.83m) and sophomore Corey Burns (42'4 ¾", 12.92m) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Next weekend, coach Ethan Barron's team will look for more strong performances as they compete in the John Thomas Invitational at Boston University and host the Tufts Stampede at the Gantcher Center.
