MEDFORD - Junior Alex Karys of the Tufts men's indoor track & field team is second out of nine competitors after the first day of the Tufts Stampede Heptathlon contested at the Gantcher Center this afternoon.
With four events completed and three remaining, Karys has scored 2,423 points. He trails only Haverford's Jeff Ainsley who has a 2,587 score.
Karys won the shot put event with a best heave of 40'7" (12.37m) to score 629 points. He was also second in the high jump, clearing 5'9 1/4" (1.76m) for 593 points. His time of 7.80 seconds in the 60-meter dash compiled 619 points.
Senior Allan Yau is also in the heptathlon field for Tufts. He is sixth with 2,253 points. Yau was the runner-up in the long jump at 20'0 1/2" (6.11m) for 610 points and added 713 points with a 7.50 time in the 60.
The 60-meter hurdles, the 1,000 meters and the pole vault will be competed tomorrow to finish the event.
