| Alex Karys is fifth among the heptathlon field after four events |
SPRINGFIELD - Junior Alex Karys and senior Allan Yau of the Tufts men's indoor track & field teams are fifth and sixth, respectively, after four events in the heptathlon at the 2015 New England Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College.
The meet started on Friday with the 60-meter dash, high jump, long jump and shot put of the heptathlon. Karys accumulated 2,340 points and Yau has 2,263. Bates College's Eric Wainman leads after four events with 2,710 points.
Karys scored 631 points in the 60 meters with a time of 7.76 seconds. He added 628 in the shot put with a best heave of 40'6 3/4" (12.36m), which was second in the 11-man field.
Yau's best event was the 60 meters in which his 7.52 time scored 706 points.
The final three events in the heptathlon as well as the rest of the meet will be competed on Saturday starting at 9 am.
