BOSTON - Junior Veer Bhalla of the Tufts men's indoor track & field team qualified for the final in the 800 meters at the 47th New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Assocation Championships hosted by Boston University on Friday night.
Bhalla's 1:52.54 on the banked track at BU was seventh in the preliminaries, earning him one of eight spots into Saturday's 800 finals at 1:50 pm. The time will be adjusted by approximately 1.5 seconds and won't improve upon Bhalla's 10th-ranked national time of 1:53.90 in the event.
The Jumbos did not score any points on the first day of the meet, which features the top competitors from Divisions I, II and III in the region.
The distance medley relay ran a Tufts season-best time of 10:20.33 that was 14th at the meet. The group was freshman Sam Little, freshman Chris Gregory, senior Sam Garfield and senior Marshall Pagano.
Five events have been completed thus far. The meet resumes on Saturday at 10 am.
