NEW LONDON, CT - The Connecticut College men's hockey team extended its winning streak to five games with a 4-1 triumph over Tufts University at Dayton Arena Saturday night.
Sophomore Brian Belisle and senior Marc Roper scored first-period goals. Junior Tim DiPretoro and senior Zach Jones tacked on two more in the third period for the Camels. Junior Tom Conlin made 28 saves as the Camels completed the two-game sweep of the Jumbos.
Tufts University freshman forward Brian Brown potted his 11th goal of the season in the first period. Sophomore Mason Pulde finished with 28 saves in the setback for the Jumbos.
The Camels took an early lead 2:30 into regulation when sophomore Ryan Mowery delivered a nice pass to Belisle who went top shelf to beat Pulde at the far post side of the goal.
Tufts answered back when Brown was assisted by Brian Ouellette in a two-on-one situation.
Connecticut College regained the lead when Roper executed on the power play with a blistering slap shot from the point. Joe Birmingham and Di Pretoro assisted on what proved to be the difference-making goal.
Connecticut College enjoyed a 10-6 advantage in shots in the second period, but neither side was able to score.
In the third period, the Camels cashed in on their power play to build a 3-1 lead. Will Leedy rifled a shot from the right circle that was saved by Pulde, but DiPretoro pounced on the rebound and flicked one over Pulde's head for the score.
Tufts emptied its goal with 3:24 remaining and senior Jones was able to collect a loose puck and close out the win with the short-handed empty-netter for the Camels.
Connecticut College held a 32-29 advantage in shots. The hosts were two for three on their power play and finished a perfect five for five on its penalty kill.
For the fourth year in a row tonight, the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team raised awareness about the "Green Dot" program, a campus initiative to prevent power-based personal violence through bystander intervention.
Connecticut College began implementing the Green Dot program in 2010. Through Green Dot, students, faculty and staff are trained to help prevent power-based personal violence, including sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.
