Black Advances to 800 Final at NCAA Men's Indoor Track Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Junior Mitchell Black of the Tufts women's indoor track & field team clocked the fastest time in the 800-meter preliminaries to advance to Saturday's final at the NCAA Div. III Championship at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem today.

Black made a decisive move to the front of the pack 500 meters into the race and held on to win his heat in a time of 1:52.91.  No one in the second heat, including classmate Veer Bhalla, was able to best that mark on Friday. Bhalla's time of 1:55.61 landed him in 11th, meaning he will not advance to the eight-man final.

Black will compete for the national title on Saturday at 3:55 pm EST. After a short rest, he'll be joined by freshman Andrew DiMaiti and juniors Alex Kasemir and Francis Goins for the 4x400 meter relay at 5:20 pm EST.
