Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Seven different Methodist University players had rbis as the Monarchs won 8-2 against Tufts in college baseball action today.
The Jumbos (4-3) had a 2-1 lead in the second before Methodist tied it in the third and went ahead 6-2 with four in the fourth. Alex Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with two rbis and a run for the hosts. Stephen Nalls was 3 for 4 with a run and an rbi and Ray Lanners scored twice with an rbi.
After the Monarchs opened the scoring in the first, Tufts tallied twice to take a lead. James Howard led off with a walk and a pair of errors loaded the bases. Sophomore Oscar Kutch got a run home with a fielder's choice and senior tri-captain Connor McDavitt made it 2-1 with an rbi single.
Jumbo senior starter Tom Ryan pitched a 1-2-3 second, but Rodriguez hit a solo home run to tie the score at 2-2 in the third.
Tufts would have two runners picked off bases in the fourth before the Monarchs struck for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Colin Ford, Chris Power and Rodriguez had rbi singles to lead the rally.
The Jumbos put runners on first and second with no outs in the fifth, but a double-play killed the threat. In the sixth they put runers on first and second with one out, but would not capitalize.
Both team's bullpens stayed strong until the Methodist seventh. With two outs, Lanners doubled and Nalls singled to bring home runs for the Monarchs making it 6-2.
Tufts again had the beginnings of a threat with runners on first and second with one out in the eighth. However, Tyler Hardee got two outs to keep Tufts off the scoreboard.
Junior SS Matt Moser led the Jumbos at 2 for 4. Ryan took the loss allowing eight hits and six runs in four innings.
Greg Johnson won in relief for the Monarchs, pitching two innings allowing one hit and no runs.
