Box Score MEDFORD - Sophomore Kate Mackin scored all three of her goals in the first 19 minutes of the game to help Tufts take a 6-1 lead and the #4 Jumbos held off Wheaton College for an 11-8 win in non-league women's lacrosse action Monday afternoon at Bello Field.

In her first game of the season, 2014 All-NESCAC pick Brigid Bowser scored twice with two assists for the Jumbos. Junior Caroline Ross did the same as Tufts remained undefeated at 3-0.
Wheaton out-scored the Jumbos 3-0 in the final 13 minutes of the game, but it wasn't enough. The Lyons (2-2) were led by two goals each from first-year Katie Peters, junior Brooke Sabol and junior Madison Cohen.
Mackin and Cohen traded goals to open the scoring. Tufts then ran off five in a row to take a 6-1 lead on Ross' goal with 11:23 on the first-half clock. Ross also had two assists during the run.
Sabol netted two of Wheaton's three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half. Tufts first-year Calie Nowak scored both of the Jumbos' goals during that span. The hosts led 8-4 at intermission.
The Jumbos looked to put the game away early in the second half, scoring three of the first four goals. They were up 11-5 on Bowser's goal with 13:02 remaining in regulation. However, senior tri-captain Melanie Sharick, Peters and junor Allie Bush ran off three in a row and the Lyons were within 11-8 with plenty of time (7:20) remaining.
Tufts senior Rachel Gallimore made two saves in the final two minutes to help secure the win. She finished with nine overall. Sophomore Annie Artz and Ross both caused two turnovers for Tufts while senior Jaymi Cohen was one of three Jumbos to collect three groundballs. Nowak did as well along with winning three draw controls.
Wheaton finished with advantages in shots (20-18) and draw controls (12-9). Sabol was strong on draws with six wins. First-year Megan Hemmerlein caused two turnovers and scooped up four groundballs. Cohen had three GB's to go with two caused turnovers. Senior tri-captain Katy Ananian stopped five shots in the Wheaton goal.
The Jumbos, in the midst of a four-game homestand, host Keene State on Wednesday night at 7 pm. Wheaton gets right back at it tomorrow against another NESCAC foe at Trinity for a 6 pm start.
