Baseball Now Winners in 9 of Last 10 Following 8-1 Final Over Keene State

MEDFORD - Sophomore pitcher Tim Superko did not allow an earned run over eight innings as the Tufts baseball team stayed hot with an 8-1 victory over Keene State College in the Huskins Field opener Wednesday afternoon.

Senior DH Bryan Egan had two rbis and now has 25 on the season

The Jumbos (13-4) have now won nine of their last 10 games. Tufts scored seven of its eight runs unearned as Keene State committed five errors. Senior DH Bryan Egan had two rbis for Tufts and sophomore 2B Boomer Saraga scored three runs.

Superko improved to 3-2 allowing six hits with five strikeouts and three walks. The Owls scored an unearned run in the top of the second when freshman catcher Kolby Reggione took second on an error, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by junior DH Dustin Howe. That put the visitors up 1-0, but Superko retired 13 of the next 14 after that and the Tufts offense built its lead.

The Jumbos led for good after scoring two in the third. Freshman 3B Tommy O'Hara doubled with one out putting runners at second and third. Egan and junior SS Matt Moser plated the runs with ground balls.

Tufts scored unearned three times in the fourth to lead 5-1. Egan had an rbi single and the hosts executed a double steal with sophomore RF Oscar Kutch taking second and senior CF Connor McDavitt scoring.

Saraga walked, stole second, took third on a fly ball to left and scored on an error for a 6-1 Tufts margin in the sixth. The Jumbos would add two more unearned in the eighth including an rbi single through the right side by McDavitt.

O'Hara finished 2 for 5 with a run and Kutch scored twice for Tufts. Moser pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Freshman 2B Christian Bourgea had singles in the sixth and eighth innings for Keene (6-8), who has now lost four in a row. Freshman Nick Rizio took the pitching loss, giving up four hits and five runs (one earned) with two walks and no strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Freshman NIck Nowak and sophomore Nate Pedersen both went an inning in relief allowing no hits and no runs for the Owls.
