SPRINGFIELD - The Tufts Men's Track & Field 4x400-meter relay placed second out of 20 teams at the 2015 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Springfield College on Thursday.
The Jumbo foursome of freshman Andrew DiMaiti, junior Alex Kasemir, sophomore Nick Usoff and junior Mitchell Black clocked a 3:16.56 time. They were second behind only Brockport State, which won the ECAC title with a 3:15.51 finish. The second-place showing scored eight team points for Tufts, which had the Jumbos tied for 12th after one day at the ECAC meet.
Despite the good finish, the Jumbos did not achieve their ultimate goal of improving their NCAA qualifying mark in the event. The 3:15.22 time they ran at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association meet last week is 20th on the performance list.
Also on Friday, senior co-captains Marshall Pagano and Brian Williamson were in action for Tufts. Pagano took ninth in the ECAC 3,000-meter steeple chase with a 9:55.76 time. Williamson heaved the hammer 165-10 (50.54m) to finish in 14th place.
Saturday saw junior Bryson Hoover-Hankerson post the team's best distance of the outdoor season in the high jump with a 22'4 1/4" (6.81m) mark. That was 12th at the meet, the same that Williamson placed in the shot put with 49'3" (15.01m) distance.
Junior Francis Goins ran the 200 and 400 meters on Saturday. He was 15th in the 200 (22.48) and 25th in the 400 (50.25). Sophomore Ptah Osayande placed 16th in the 400-meter hurdles with a 55.68 finish.
With the eight points scored by the 4x4, Tufts tied for 35th at the ECAC meet.
