CAMBRIDGE - A reduced Tufts men's outdoor track & field squad featured several Jumbos posting the team's season-best performances at the 2015 New England Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by MIT. Tufts finished 13th as a team.
Senior co-captain Brian Williamson had a 174'4 3/4" (53.15m) heave of the hammer to take sixth place. The distance ranks 31st nationally for the spring season.
Junior Francis Goins finished the 400 meters in 49.37 seconds, the best Tufts mark this seson and fifth at the meet. Junior Bryson Hoover-Hankerson had a 2015 Tufts-best 21'11 3/4" (6.70m) effort in the long jump which took seventh.
Senior Allan Yau scored in the decathlon with 5,526 points. His best event was the 100 meters with a time of 11.72 seconds for 707 points.
The 4x800-meter relay also had the season's best time of 7:56.60 for eighth place. The foursome was senior Joseph St. Pierre, freshman Ty Enos, freshman Tom DePalma and junior Alex Apostolides.
Junior James Traester was Tufts' highest scorer with a fourth-place in the 5,000 meters (15:14.35). Senior co-captain Marshall Pagano also scored in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 9:45.46 finish.
Host MIT won the New England Division III title with a 171.5 final score. Bates was the runner-up with 75 points.
The Jumbos are back at MIT next week (May 7-9) for the All-New England Championship meet.
