MEDFORD - Junior Zachary Wallace and sophomore Kingsley Bowen were both a part of four victories as the Tufts University men's swimming & diving team posted a 185-110 win over Middlebury College in the Jumbos' season-opener at Hamilton Pool on Sunday.
Wallace and Bowen were joined by senior Jasper Du and junior Lorenzo Lau in the 400 medley relay which won in a Hamilton Pool record time of 3:30.54. Bowen would later finish the meet as part of a pool record 3:11.19 time in the 400 freestyle relay along with junior James McElduff, freshman Roger Gu and Lau.
A returning All-American, Bowen also established a pair of pool records in the 100 backstroke, with a 50.66 leading off the 400 medley relay, and in the 50 back with his 23.70 victory. He was also first in the 50 butterfly (23.44).
Wallace added three individual victories in the 100 butterfly with a 52.71 touch, in the 100 backstroke where he posted a 54.86 finish and in the 200 individual medley (1:59.46).
Head coach Adam Hoyt's Jumbos won 13 of the 16 events overall. Du added a pair of solo wins in the breaststrokes. He tied with freshman teammate Eric Shi in the 50 with both finishing in 28.04 seconds. Du won the 100 in a 1:02.09 time, just 0.11 ahead of teammate Matthew Manfre (1:02.20).
Likewise, Gu also won a pair of races in the freestyles with a 21.28 time in the 50 and a 47.51 mark in the 100. In addition to his role in the two relay foursomes, Lau was the 200 freestyle winner in a 1:46.44 time.
Diving was held at Bentley College where Tufts senior Matt Rohrer won the one-meter event with a 336.90 score.
The Jumbos dominated many events, including taking the top five spots in the 100 free and 50 fly. They had the top four times in the 200 and 50 frees, and were top three in the 50 back, 50 breast and the 400 medley relay.
Tufts' final score did not include points they would have earned with their 200 IM win by Wallace and the 400 free relay victory. With a victory in hand, they swam the final two events as exhibitions.
Middlebury was led by Michael McGean, who won both distance freestyle races. He had a 4:50.25 in the 500 for a 10-second win, and also was first in the 1,000 at 9;56.50. William Greene awon three-meter diving for the Panthers totaling a 255.07 score.
The Jumbos return to action on December 2 at the Middlebury Invitational. Middlebury (1-1) swims at Amherst on December 3.
