Harrison, Smith Highlight NEICAAA Championships for Women's Track

Sydney Smith ran Tufts' fastest mile of the season

BOSTON - Senior Alexis Harrison was the All-New England runner-up in the 60-meter dash and classmate Sydney Smith scored sixth in the mile run as the Tufts Women's Indoor Track & Field team competed on the second day of the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) meet on Saturday.

Harrison ran a time of 7.69 seconds in the 60 meters final, just a tick behind event champion Lauren Perrodin from New Hampshire (7.68). Harrison, who scored eight team points with the second-place finish, had qualified for the eight-woman final earlier in the day with a 7.71 time in the semi-finals. Today's 7.69 time was 0.03 off Harrison's season-best of 7.63 seconds which is ranked third nationally.

Smith earned herself a national top 20 mark with a 4:57.89 time in the mile. She was the top Division III finisher in the 29-woman race and scored three points with her sixth-place effort. The converted time of 5:00.84 due to BU's banked track is #20 on the NCAA list as of Saturday night.

Head coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos finished 19th as a team at the NEICAAA event scoring 12 points. Junior Kelly Fahey's eighth (17:56.79) in the 5,000 meters on Friday had given the Jumbos a point entering Saturday. The NEICAAA's are the championships for all New England teams Divisions I, II and III.

Tufts senior Marilyn Allen's 9.09 time in Saturday's 60-meter hurdles semi-final did not reach the final. She took 12th overall out of 31 original entries.

Tufts also had two in Saturday's 3,000 meters with sophomore Eliza Lawless recording a 10:22.66 time and sophomore Margot Rashba finishing in 10:25.56.
