MEDFORD - The Jumbo Men's Track distance medley relay made the most of its opportunity at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet on Friday by running the nation's seventh-fastest time in the event.
On their home track at the Gantcher Center, the Tufts foursome of freshman Colin Raposo, senior tri-captain Alex Kasemir, senior Alex Apostolides, and senior tri-captain Mitchell Black ran a 10:02.51 time which will likely get them into the NCAA Championship meet next weekend in Grinnell, Iowa.
Three top 10 national DMR marks were run at the meet as SUNY Geneseo won the event with a 9:59.99 and Christopher Newport placed second in 10:01.65. Eight teams in the event overall posted top 20 national marks.
Also for the Jumbos on Friday, senior Bryson Hoover-Hankerson reset his school record in the 60-meter dash. He ran a 7.04 to win the final, shaving 0.03 off his previous 7.07 best.
Otherwise, the Jumbos weren't able to improve any of their NCAA qualifying marks. Freshman Josh Etkind ran 8.36 in the 60-meter hurdles, 0.11 off his 8.25 season-best which is ranked 18th in Division III.
Freshman Ben Wallace had Tufts' season-best in the pole vault, clearing 14'6" (4.41m).
