MEDFORD - The Tufts men's track & field team opened its New England season by hosting the annual Snowflake Classic at Ellis Oval / Duasault Track on Saturday. The Jumbos placed third out of 16 teams.
A majority of the team rested this week, with the Jumbo mid-distance runners, 10,000 meters runners, throwers, and relays primarly competing.
Tufts did get a win in the sprints where sophomore Peter Clark took 0.23 off his preliminary time in the 100 meter dash to win with an 11.31 in the final. The event had 42 entrants in the prelims.
Nick Adams won a three-man 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 10:14.02 time. The 4x800-meter relay of Nico Agosti, Andrew DiMaiti, Alex Kasemir, and Henry Hintermeister won a two-team race in 8:18.20.
Sophomore Chris Gregory was the runner-up in the 27-man 400 meter dash with a time of 51.24 seconds. Hintermeister also ran 57.80 in the 100-meter hurdles for third place out of 13 in the event.
Hiroto Watanabe and Tom DePalma both scored in the 800 meters with times of 1:59.12 and 1:59.34, respectively. Brian Djerf also grabbed a low-scoring spot in the 1,500 meter run (4:08.40).
Tufts had two runners post national top 50 times in the 10K. Dylan Jones was seventh in the race with a 33:02.72 finishing time and John Greenberg came across the finish line in 33:11.51.
Freshman Charles Pennington's 5'6" (1.68m) high jump and classmate Ben Wallace's 13'11 1/4" (4.25m) clearance in the pole vault both earned seventh.
Senior Attitus Swett had a fourth in the discus (132'10" - 40.48m) and a sixth in the hammer (127'3" - 38.79m) to lead the throwers.
Division I Dartmouth won the meet with a 140.5 score. Worcester State was the runner up with a 102 score.
