SOMERVILLE - Freshman Josh Etkind posted Tufts' top performances of the season in the 110-meter hurdles and the triple jump to help the Jumbo men's outdoor track & field team win the home Sunshine Classic at Dussault Track today.
Etkind ran 15.39 seconds to win the 110-meter hurdles final and went 45'7 3/4" (13.91m) in the triple jump for first place. The TJ marks is ranked 30th nationally in his first effort of the outdoor season.
Tufts compiled 315 team points to double the total of second-place WPI (152). UMass Boston (68) was third in the six-team meet.
Senior Atticus Swett had a first and two seconds in the throwing events for Tufts. His 45'7" (13.89m) in the shot put was first out of 15. He was the runner-up in both the discus throw (135'0" - 41.14m) and the javelin throw at 160'5" (48.89m).
Also in the throws, Michael Paloian won the hammer throw with a Tufts 2016-best 161'3" (49.15) distance.
The Jumbos won eight events overall. Bryson Hoover-Hankerson was first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12 seconds. Her was also part of the winning 4x100 relay with Peter Clark, Thomas Miller, and Anthony Kardonsky. The ran a 43.06 time.
Tom DePalma won the 800 in 1:55.19 and Andrew DiMaiti was first in the 400-meter hurdles (54.85).
The Jumbos will vie for their fourth consecutive NESCAC title at the conference championship meet next Saturday at Amherst.
