CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts men's outdoor track & field team placed fourth at the MIT Quad meet with the host Engineers, RPI, and Bates on Saturday.
The Jumbos were in action without several of their top scorers who had traveled to New Jersey on Friday to compete in Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational. On Saturday at MIT, the hosts won with a 218 score, RPI was second (146), Bates scored third (132), and the Jumbos totaled 111.
The Jumbos did not win an event, but had a pair of runner-up efforts. Sophomore Andrew DiMaiti finished the 400-meter hurdles in 55.12 seconds for second place. Nick Usoff was third in the race with a time of 55.92 seconds. Those marks did not improve upon both Jumbos' season-best times of 54.37 and 55.76, respectively. DiMaiti is ranked 12th nationally in the event.
Freshman Christian Swenson time da strong 3:57.13 in the 1,500 meters, third at the meet and 21st on the NCAA qualifying list as of Saturday night. Senior Bryson Hoover-Hankerson posted a national top 50 mark with his 21'9 1/2" (6.64m) distance in the long jump, which is 46th on the qualifying list. Hoover-Hankerson was also the runner-up in the 100 meters (11.23).
Senior Atticus Swett was the runner-up in the javelin throw with a 166'8" (50.81) launch. He was also fourth in the shot put with a 44'9 3/4" (13.66m) best that is Tufts' top throw of the season. His 141'1" (43.01) hammer heave is also Tufts' best for 2016.
In the triple jump, HeeJae An went 42'1 1/4" (12.83m) for a Tufts season-best. Others earning thirds for the Jumbos were freshmen Thomas Miller in the 100 (11.33) and Colin Raposo in the 800 (1:56.77).
