SPRINGFIELD - A reduced Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team scored 19 points and placed 15th at the 2016 New England Division III Championships held at Springfield College this weekend.
The Jumbos received a pair of fifth-place hurdles finishes from junior Nick Usoff and freshman Josh Etkind. Usoff ran 55.03 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles and Etkind timed 15.18 seconds in the 110-hurdles.
Sophomore Sam Little, freshman Brian Djerf, freshman Colin Raposo, and sophomore Tom DePalma combined for a fifth-place time of 7:55.25 in the 4x800-meter relay.
Senior Nick Adams posted a 9:30 flat in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for sixth place.
The majority of Jumbo points were scored by freshmen and sophomores. Freshman Christian Swenson finished sixth in the 1,500 meters with a 3:57.21 time. Classmate Thomas Miller added a point to the Tufts total with an eighth place in the 200 meters, running 22.43 seconds.
MIT won the New England Division III men's championship with a 179.50 score. Bates College was second at 69.
The Jumbos compete at the All-New England meet next weekend (May 13-14) at Southern Connecticut.
