MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team collected 21 top-three finishes, including six first-place finishes during a 218-139 setback in dual-meet action against Boston College on Tuesday evening at Hamilton Pool in Medford, Massachusetts.

The Jumbos started the meet in style, as sophomore Kingsley Bowen, junior Scott Simpson, junior Zachary Wallace and freshman Roger Gu finished first overall in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.67, 11 points). The "A" unit cleared the second-place relay team by 0.30 seconds.
The hosts also garnered a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the Jumbos' "A" team, featuring junior Lorenzo Lau, Gu, freshman Costa Camerano Spelta Rapini and sophomore Ross Wood, tallied a time of 1:27.42 and collected four team points. The group trailed the first-place squad by 1.83 seconds.
On the individual side, Gu and Wallace each garnered a pair of first-place finishes. Gu touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (46.53, nine points) and the 50-yard freestyle (20.97, nine points), while Wallace earned first-place acknowledgement in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.09, nine points) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.63, nine points). Wallace also was the team's top-performer in the 100-yard backstroke, as the La Jolla, California, native placed third overall with a time of 53.34 (three points).
Bowen, who competed at the NCAA Division III Championships last season, finished first overall in the 50-yard backstroke (23.62, nine points). The Pepper Pike, Ohio, native was the Jumbos' first-place finisher in the 50-yard butterfly (second overall, 23.33) and the 100-yard individual medley (second overall, 53.00).
Sophomore Brandon Jinn finished second overall and was the team's top-performer in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.60, four points), while senior captain Luca Guadagno collected second-place finishes in the 200 backstroke (1:58.60, four points) and the 200 IM (2:00.44, four points). Junior Michael Brienza performed admirably in the 100 backstroke, as he finished fourth overall with a time of 55.66 and earned a pair of team points.
Junior James McElduff finished second overall in the 100 freestyle (48.58, four points), while being the Jumbos' top-finisher and placing third overall in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.77, three points). Lau was the first Jumbo to touch the wall in the 200-yard freestyle (third overall, 1:45.55), while he also collected a third-place finish in the 50 backstroke (25.46).
Freshman Alex Burnam was the team's top-performer in the 200-yard breaststroke (third overall, 2:15.57), senior Jasper Du was the squad's first-place finisher in the 50-yard breaststroke (third overall, 28.59), junior Neil Spazzarini was the Jumbos' top-finisher in the 100-yard butterfly (third overall, 54.90) and freshman Eric Shi was the first Jumbo to touch the wall in the 100-yard breaststroke (fifth overall, 1:02.01).
Sophomore James Wu, Du, McElduff and Brienza formed the team's "B" unit in the 200 medley relay, placing fourth overall with a time of 1:40.50. Sophomore Chris Simotas, freshman Timothy Gronet, Brienza and Spazzarini tallied a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as the Jumbos' "B" group posted a time of 1:31.95.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Saturday (11 a.m.), as the squad will compete in a dual meet at Wheaton in Norton, Massachusetts.
