Stefan Duviver cleared a season-best 6'9" in the high jump |
BOSTON - Seniors Drew DiMaiti and Stefan Duvivier of the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team both improved their chances of qualifying for the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships coming up in two weeks with their performances on Sunday at Boston University's Last Chance Qualifier.
DiMaiti timed a personal record 48.29 seconds in the 400 meters, which ranks 12th among Division III competitors as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday night. It improved upon his previous season-best mark of 48.80 which was ranked 21st entering the day. He was fourth out of 39 competitors at the BU meet, which included teams from Divsions I, II and III as well as club competitors.
Duvivier unlocked his best high jump of the season, clearing at 6'9" (2.06m). That puts him in a tie for 13th nationally. His previous 2018-best had been 6'8 1/4" (2.04m), so he moved up six spots from his former #19 national ranking. He was third at the meet.
Another highlight from among the dozen Jumbo athletes competing on Sunday was a 200 meters PR by freshman OJ Armstrong (22.26). He was the first finisher out of four Tufts runners in the event.
The Jumbos will host another national qualifying meet next Saturday at the Gantcher Center before the NCAA Championships March 9-10 in Birmingham, Alabama.
