Men's Track Distance Medley Relay Breaks School Record at BU on Friday Night

Christian Swenson led off the record-setting DMR

BOSTON - In the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team's first distance medley relay race of the season on Friday night, the foursome of junior Christian Swenson, senior co-captain Drew DiMaiti, junior Hiroto Watanabe and junior Colin Raposo broke the school record and ran the second-fastest time in the country at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Tufts' time of 9:54.92 tonight broke the eight-year old previous school record of 9:56.97 which was run in 2010 by Matt Tirrell, Ben Crastnopol, Billy Hale and Jesse Faller at the IC4A Championships on the same track.

In a race that started at 10:30 p.m., the two fastest Division III times in the country were submitted tonight at BU. Running in the same heat, MIT was 0.69 in front of the Jumbos with a 9:54.23 mark that stands as the #1 DMR time in the country as of Friday night at midnight. Both teams were behind Division II American International College, which combined for a 9:48.46 finish to win the event.

Wartburg had the previous best time in DIII with a 9:55.05 mark they set February 2 at a home meet.

The Jumbos will have athletes in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 500 meters, 800 meters, 1,000 meters, and in the mile tomororw at BU starting at 10 a.m. Jumpers, throwers, and hurdlers will be at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday.
