SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior co-captain Drew DiMaiti of the Tufts men's track & field team ran a pair of top early-outdoor season times at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) on Saturday.
The Jumbos, who are on spring break, competed in 15 events and had multiple entries in most. In a field of 12 teams that included Navy and Yale, the Jumbos placed fourth.
DiMaiti, who a week ago earned indoor All-American status with the Tufts distance medley relay, won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.89 seconds. His 48.46 time that placed third in the 400 meters is his career-best outdoors. The marks are ranked second (400) and third (400h) in the nation as the outdoor season gets started.
Jumbos posted national top 25 marks in three other events. In the first 4x100-meter relay of the season, senior Patrick Milne, junior Tommy Miller, junior Brandon Levenstein and senior Peter Clark combined on a 43.04 finish that ranks 12th nationally. Sophomore Kevin Quisumbing had a 48'0 ¾" (14.65m) best in the shot put to rank 15th in DIII. That's his outdoor PR. Sophomore Dylan McEniry is ranked 23rd with his 1:57.22 time in the 800, a mark that is his collegiate best indoors or outdoors.
In a 5,000 meters race that had six Jumbos out of the 10 entrants, sophomore Dylan Jones won the race in a 15:17.10 time that is also his career best.
DiMaiti also ran with the 4x4 that placed fifth (3:34 flat). He followed freshman Vincent Avallone and preceded junior Thomas Doyle and sophomore Billy Witrock.
The Jumbos will spend the week in San Diego and compete at the PLNU Collegiate Invitational next Saturday.
