NEW LONDON, Conn. – Juniors Hiroto Watanabe and Colin Raposo of the Jumbo men's outdoor track & field team both ran national top 20 marks in their events at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College on Friday night.
Watanabe finished the 800 in 1:53.81 to place sixth out of 33 at the meet and rank #15 for Division III as of 11:30 p.m. Friday night. The time just missed his outdoor PR of 1:53.79. For Raposo, he was fourth out of 26 in the 1,500 meters with a 3:57.65 time. That finish is #18 nationally.
The Jumbos also had a pair of juniors put their names into the national top 50 for the 5,000 meters. Dylan Jones' 14:56.51 and Andrew Doherty Munro's 14:56.64 are #45 and #46 on the national list, respectively. They were fifth and sixth in the race out of 28 finishers. Both marks were big-time PR's for both Jumbos.
Tufts ran in four events overall Friday night. Junior Rory Buckman had the Jumbos' top mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 10:00.45 for eighth place.
A full slate of events will be contested at the Silfen Invitational on Saturday.
