Avallone Wins Twice for Men's Track & Field at Home Sunshine Meet

Vincent Avallone was a double-winner for the Jumbos

MEDFORD – Freshman Vincent Avallone won two events to top the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team's performance at the Sunshine Classic hosted by the Jumbos at Dussault Track on Saturday.

Avallone won the 200 in a 22.85 PR and also took first in the 400 with a 51.19 mark that is an outdoor PR for him.

Tufts won seven events in all on its way to accumulating 247 points. The Jumbos scored first at the six-team meet with Plymouth State finishing as the runner-up at 160.

Jumbo victories were also posted by sophomore Jackson Mihm in the 800 (1:58.12), junior Henry Hintermeister in the 400-meter hurdles (58.52), senior Stefan Duvivier in the high jump (6'6" – 1.98m), junior Ben Wallace in the pole vault (14'5 ¼" – 4.40m) and freshman Michael Mecha in the triple jump (44'8" – 13.61m).

A few Jumbos who led the team in their events achieved PRs on Saturday. Sophomore David Ng'Etich hit his in the 1,500 with a 4:07.51 finish. Junior Rory Buckman timed a career-best 9:49.86 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Christian Trebisacci had a 133'3" (40.61m) discus throw that was his top collegiate mark in the event. Freshman Matthew Manteiga notched his season-best in the long jump at 21'11" (6.68m).

The Jumbos will compete for the NESCAC title at Trinity College next Saturday.
