HANOVER, N.H. – Junior Anthony Kardonsky and sophomore Kevin Quisumbing of the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team both had top-five finishes at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships hosted by Dartmouth College on Saturday.
On the second day of the meet, Kardonsky ran 10.88 for fourth place in the 100 meters final. Quisumbing's career-best 50'10 ¼" (15.50m) was fifth in the shot put. The mark is a national top 40 distance for Quisumbing.
Those performances helped Tufts score 12 points on Saturday and finish with 26 for the meet. They took 14th place at the event featuring New England Division I, II and III teams.
Also on Saturday the 4x100-meter relay had the team's season-best time of 42.20 seconds and finished sixth. The foursome was junior Brandon Levenstein, Kardonsky, junior Tommy Miller and sophomore Robert Jones.
Junior Christian Swenson was 10th in the 1,500 meters with a 3:53.84 mark that is #31 on the DIII performance list. Classmate Colin Raposo was right behind him with a 3:54 flat for 11th place. In the 800, junior Hiroto Watanabe (1:53.67) and sophomore Matt D'Anieri (1:53.70) also finished consecutively with D'Anieri's mark a career-best.
Senior co-captain Drew DiMaiti was the fourth-fastest qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles at 53.84 seconds, but did not run in the final. Freshman Harry Steinberg's 9:45.40 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was the team's best time in the event this year. Junior James Gregoire had a PR in the triple jump (43'7 ¾" – 13.30m).
The Jumbos were fifth among Division III teams in the final scoring.
Some team members will compete at MIT's Final Qualifier next Thursday looking to improve their marks for the upcoming NCAA Championships.
