CAMBRIDGE – Junior James Gregoire scored in the long jump for the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team on their first day at the New England Division III Championships hosted by MIT on Friday.
Gregoire's 22'3" (6.78m) distance was fifth at the meet to score four points for the Jumbos. The mark is a career-best by more than seven inches. Those were the only points scored by Tufts from Friday, with the majority of the meet taking place on Saturday. They sit tied for 13th in the team standings.
Two Jumbos qualified for the 100 meters finals on Friday. Junior Anthony Kardonsky ran second in the preliminaries with a time of 10.90 seconds. Junior Tommy Miller finished sixth out of the eight qualifiers with a career-best 10.97 mark. The final is set for approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Sophomore Christian Trebisacci had a PR in the discus throw on Friday with a 137'7" (41.94m) best to place 14th at the meet. Freshman Michael Mecha matched his PR in the long jump at 21'2 ½" (6.47m).
Host MIT leads the competition with 54 points. Action on Saturday begins at 10 a.m. for the field events and 10:30 a.m. for the running events.
