Freshman Ben Stein is fifth after day one's events |
MEDFORD – Freshman Ben Stein of the Tufts men's indoor track & field is fifth out of 13 individuals after four events in the heptathlon competed as part of the Branwen Smith-King Invitational at the Gantcher Center on Friday night.
Stein has compiled 2,320 points thus far, while Jumbo senior co-captain Henry Hintermeister is eighth through the day-one events (2,121) and freshman Jack Hirsch is 11th (2,000).
The 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters remain to be contested on Saturday when the heptathlon will be finished.
Amherst College's Troy Colleran leads the event after four competitions (60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump) with a 2,744 score.
Competing in his first collegiate heptathlon, Stein scored 665 points with a 7.65 time in the 60-meter dash. He added 657 points with a 20'9" (6.32m) long jump, where he finished third.
Hintermeister won the shot put event at 36'9 ½" (11.21m). His best point total came in the 60 where his time of 7.80 seconds earned a 619 score.
Along with the remainder of the heptathlon, a full meet schedule will be contested at "The Bran" meet on Saturday.
