SPRINGFIELD – In its final meet before the start of the championship season, Tufts University men's indoor track & field competed at the Springfield College Triangle Classic on Saturday.
While several team members resting prior to the New England Division III Indoor Championships next weekend at MIT, three Jumbos hit PR's at the meet.
Senior Charles Pennington tied his PR and matched his own team season-best by clearing 6'2 ¾" (1.90m) in the high jump. He was fourth at the meet. Senior Brian Reaney PR'd and was the runner-up in the 3,000 meters with an 8:54.21 time. Sophomore Daeseob Lim hit his PR in the pole vault, clearing 13'5 ¼" (4.10m).
Seniors Josh Etkind and Hiroto Watanabe were both in Springfield attempting to improve upon national qualifying marks, but neither managed to do so. Watanabe was sixth in the 800 at 1:59.99 and Etkind ran 8.40 for second place in the 60-meter hurdles.
Senior Andrew Doherty Munro won a five-man 5,000 meter run with a 15:50.59 time. Sophomore Peter Horvath was third behind Reaney in the 3,000 with a 8:54.41 finish. Junior Robert Jones also had a third-place finish in the 200 meters (23.19).
Junior Ranjit Thomas was second in a five-man triple jump (39'9 ¾" – 12.13m) and freshman Neerav Gade placed third out of 12 in the mile run (4:34.99).
Teams from Coast Guard, Connecticut College, MIT, Springfield, Trinity, Williams and WPI were in action along with the Jumbos today. No team scoring was kept.
