Jumbo Men's Track Trio Competes in Preliminaries at NCAA Championships on Friday

BOSTON – Seniors Josh Etkind, Colin Raposo and Hiroto Watanabe of the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team each competed at the NCAA Division III Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Friday.

In the preliminaries, Etkind ran in the 60-meter hurdles, Raposo was in the mile run and Watanabe was entered in the 800 meters. None of the three Jumbos advanced to Saturday's finals.

The first Jumbo to see action, Etkind was 14th in the preliminaries with a time of 8.36 seconds. He needed to be among the top eight to advance. The eighth-place time was an 8.206 by WPI's Oliver Thomas.

Raposo placed 15th in the mile preliminaries with a 4:15.25 mark. He needed to be among the top 10 to reach the final. Zach Lee from Wisconsin-Platteville was 10th in a 4:12.87 finish.

Wrapping up the evening for Tufts, Watanabe posted a time of 1:54.69 in the 8. He was 16th and the top eight moved on. Coast Guard's Josiah Davis had the eighth-place time of 1:53.32.

With none of Tufts' competitors advancing to the finals, this concluded Tufts' stay at the 2019 NCAA meet and completed their indoor season.
