Men's Track & Field Wins Sunshine Classic at Ellis Oval / Dussault Track

Neerav Gade won a five-man 5,000-meter run today.

MEDFORD – Senior Tommy Miller ran his career-best in the 200 meters as the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team went on to victory at the fourth annual Sunshine Classic Saturday at Ellis Oval / Dussault Track.

The sunshine was nowhere to be found, but Tufts outscored second-place Mass.-Dartmouth 181-138 to win the meet. Husson was third with a 125 score.

Miller was the runner-up in the 200 with a time of 21.93 seconds. His previous PR in the event was a 22.26 from the NESCAC meet way back in his freshman season of 2016. His mark today is a national top 50 time and the team's fastest 200 of the season.

Freshman Riley Patten won the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 55.00. He improved his national ranking to 30th after his previous best mark of 55.59 was 47th nationally.

Tufts won six events overall. Senior Josh Etkind ran 14.82 in the 110-meter hurdles and classmate Ben Wallace cleared 14'5 ¼" (4.40m) in the pole vault. Junior Kevin Quisumbing topped a 22-man field in the shot put with a 50'8 ¾" (15.46m) best. Freshman Neerav Gade finished the 5,000 meters in a 15:22.98 time.

The Jumbos also won in the 4x100-meters relay was senior Brandon Levenstein, senior Andrew Kardonsky, Miller and sophomore OJ Armstrong timing 43.01 seconds.

Senior Charles Pennington matched his outdoor PR in the high jump with 6'2 ¾" (1.90m) clearance.

The Jumbos start the championship season next Saturday when they compete at the 2019 NESCAC meet hosted by Middlebury College.
