Watanabe Runs in 800 at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior co-captain Hiroto Watanabe of the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team competed at the 2019 Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday.

Running in the 800 meters elite race, Watanabe had a 1:55.83 final time. It was seventh out of 12 in his heat and 47th in the field overall of 61 starters overall. The mark is the team's outdoor season-best for the 800.

Watanabe ran a 57.93 first 400 and followed that with a 57.90 over the second part of the race.

Leon Atkins from the University of Buffalo won the race in 1:49.56. Geneseo's Gillan Faulker was the top Division III finisher with a 1:52.28 time.

Watanabe and the rest of the Jumbos compete at the NESCAC Championship next Saturday at Middlebury College.
