NORTON – Senior Matt D'Anieri and sophomore Nick Delaney posted national top 10 times in the 800 meters as the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team competed at the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday.
D'Anieri led the Jumbos in a fast 800 at the Wheaton meet with a 1:54.80 time that is ranked seventh nationally as of Sunday morning. He was fourth in the race. Right on his heels was sophomore teammate Nick Delaney, whose 1:55.46 PR was fifth at the meet and garnered a #8 national spot.
Freshman Andrii Campbell was the third Jumbo to finish in the 800 with a 1:57.87 mark that is now among the national top 35. In addition, the 1:59.01 800 ran by senior co-captain Roman Lovell was a national top 40 mark on Saturday night before the performance list in the event filled out following all of Saturday's action.
Tufts' 4x400-meter relay of sophomore Riley Patten, freshman Willy White, junior OJ Armstrong and sophomore Sam Oomen-Lochtefeld also recorded a high national performance early in the 2019-20 indoor season. Their 3:25.41 was third at the meet and is at #16 nationally. Armstrong had also ran third in the 400 meters (51.76) and White took third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.57) earlier in the day.
Freshman Carter Rosewell earned his first career victory in just his second collegiate meet with 22'0 ¼" (6.71m) distance in the long jump. Freshman Marcus Hardy, a runner-up in the 600 meters at Tufts last Saturday, also achieved his first victory by winning the triple jump in 42'3 ¼" (12.88m).
Runner-up performances by the Jumbos came from junior Daeseob Lim in the pole vault (14'1 ¼" – 4.30m), junior Dylan Daisey in the weight throw (48'0 ¾" – 14.65m), junior Avery Barnes in the triple (41'6" – 12.65m), freshman Evan Ensslin in the 1,000 meters (2:33.30) and freshman Joe Pizzi in the 200 meters (23.05). Lim's vault matched his PR, while Pizzi was also fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.29).
Today's meet at Wheaton was not scored.
Tufts will compete in both the Branwen Smith-King Invitational at home and at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association meet in Boston next weekend.
