MEDFORD – Freshman Carter Rosewell and sophomore Ben Stein are third and fourth, respectively, in the heptathlon after the first day of competition at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts on Friday.
The first four of the seven events were contested on Friday (60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump). The 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters will take place on Saturday.
Rosewell's 2,541 score is third behind day-one leader Jack Allan from Brandeis (2,750) and second-place Hudson Ingoldsby from Wheaton (2,564). Stein scored 2,472 points to place fourth. Tufts sophomore Riley Patten is also competing in his first heptathlon and scored 2,320 points to sit eighth through Friday.
A 7.34 in the 60-meter dash by Rosewell was the best time of the day and scored 765 points. Stein tied for the top mark in the long jump at 21'10" (6.65m) for 732 points. Rosewell also recorded 702 points in the long jump (21'4 ¾" – 6.52m), while Stein's 7.55 personal-best in the 60 received 697 points.
Patten's top performance was in the 60-meter dash where his 7.38 time was second behind Rosewell and scored 752 points.
The rest of the heptathlon and a full meet schedule for the third annual Branwen Smith-King Invitational gets underway Saturday at 9:00 am.
