SPRINGFIELD – The Tufts University men's track and field team competed in the Triangle Classic hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.
Team scores were not tracked at the meet. Joining the Jumbos were other regional foes such as Connecticut College, Trinity College, Williams College, MIT, Coast Guard, host Springfield College and WPI.
Senior Robert Jones nearly earned the win in the 60-meter dash as he finished with a season-best time of 7.06 seconds. The top finisher and second-place finished with times of 7.05 and 7.052, respectively.
Senior Jordan Abate (23.49) and freshman Joe Pizzi (23.95) finished eighth and ninth in the 200 meter dash, respectively. Their times were just about one second off the winning time.
Junior Aiden Lewis posted a new personal-best in the 600 meter run. His time of 1:24.48 was good for second place in the event. In the 1,000 meter run, senior Dylan McEniry also earned a second-place finish with a time of 2:36.57, which was less than one second off the winning pace. In the 5000 meter run, junior Patrick Nero posted a 15:54.23, which was also good enough to earn a second place finish.
Freshman Willy White posted a career best of 8.49 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. That earned him a third place finish. Senior Taylor Wurts also had a podium finish in the mile run. He finished the event in 4:31.33. In the high jump, freshman Alex Lemieux earned a mark of 1.85 meters (6'0 3/4") which placed him third. Joining his classmate with a spot on the podium was freshman Hunter Farrell, third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.45 meters (14'7 1/4"), which tied his season best.
Juniors Matt Manteiga and Avery Barnes earned fourth and fifth place finishes in the long jump, respectively. Manteiga posted a mark of 6.59 meters (21'7 1/2") and Barnes was at 6.55 meters (21'6"). For Barnes, that is a new personal best.
In the shot put, junior Dylan Daisey earned a fifth-place finish with a mark of 13.65 meters (44'3 1/4"). Daisey also had a sixth-place finish in the weight throws. He posted a mark of 15.12 meters (49' 7.25").
The Jumbos return to action on Friday and Saturday at the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College.
